The Origin of Fatfatiya

Fatfatiya is a brand that creates contemporary Indian design - fashion accessories, home decor, artifacts and home furnishing products. Fatfatiya was born out of a thought to re-look at art, design and architecture of India. We adapt traditional designs and colours to make them distinctly contemporary, pop and quirky, creating a vibrant new home-grown aesthetic. The name ‘Fatfatiya’ originates from the local three-wheel transport, auto rickshaw, typically seen in Shekhawati, Rajasthan. Beautifully decorated, the fatfatiyas are vivid, colorful, fun and quirky – our greatest inspiration.

With roots in Jaipur and a desire to give back to the place, founders Sohan Jakhar and Sunita Jakhar founded Fatfatiya in 2012. Being from similar professional backgrounds – art and design – they formed purposeful partnership. At its magnetic core was a collective goal – to create art and design inspired from India, particularly, Shekhawati. With the founders’ strengths – inventive tech skills, genius business acumen and exhaustive experience in art and design –the brand has continually grown the possibilities.

After completing Diploma in Textile Design from Govt. Women’s Polytechnic, Jaipur in 2003, I have worked with some of Jaipur's Export House as a Textile Designer and Merchandiser for almost 5 years.  On the 12 December 2012, I have started my own home décor brand “Fatfatiya”.
